The best way to start your career is by shifting your mind.
What’s the key to starting a new career? Today I’ll show you a clip from my recent seminar Mindset: A Business Planning Workshop. As you can see in the beginning of the video, the first thing I tell my class to do is take out their notebooks and write ‘self-improvement’ and ‘mindset’ at the top of the very first page.
When you start a new career or attempt to make a shift, you have to have your mind right. In other words, you have to steady your mind. I talk about this a lot during individual trainings and one-on-one sessions with my agents. Your mindset is crucial. You have to make a mental shift so that you only focus on your real estate career until you have the opportunity to accelerate past the steep learning curve agents face in the beginning of their careers. If you shift your mindset, you’ll be able to accomplish this.
Whatever your situation is, it starts with shifting your mindset.
Let me use a story from my career as an example of this concept in motion. At one point in my life, I remember being in and out of the hospital regularly for about 10 years. During one such hospital trip, I was laying on one of the beds thinking, “This can’t be my life—to be in and out of hospitals and be sick all the time.” I had graduated from high school and had two beautiful sons by this time, but I felt stuck. I couldn’t go forward, only backward.
On that day, I made a mental shift and said to myself, “This is not going to be my life. I’m going to change it.” It took a few years, but eventually, my life started going in a direction that I dreamt of. I started writing down my goals and saying affirmations every day. I woke up at age 40, and by age 45, I had a real estate career. Now I’m conducting seminars.
Remember, though—just because I did it a certain way doesn’t mean you’ll be able to do it that way. What’s going to make your life successful is determining your goals and affirmations. Whatever your situation is, it starts with shifting your mindset.
